We will periodically be releasing software updates for Vera. All updates are at no charge, of course, and Vera will tell you when there is an update and can automatically update her software. All your settings will be kept when the upgrade occurs. These are the new features we will be adding in the near future:

November, 2008

The iPhone/iPod touch interface in the October release is beta and not fully implemented. We are adding a new, full featured iPhone integration.

Vera will be able to transfer scenes you create in the web interface to handheld controllers so you don't need to create them on the controller itself.

December, 2008

We should be ready to release support for Global Cache gc-100, which has infrared transmitters, so Vera can be used to control TV's and stereos. Users can also create their own remote control UI's to run on the iPhone/iPod touch.

We are pushing to have a beta version of the media extension for Vera. This is a NAS device that you attach to the network, with 2TB and 4TB of capacity. It handles media cataloging, streaming, ripping, and works with low-cost DMA's for playback. The DMA's use the same Sigma 8634 video playback chip found in nearly all Blu-Ray drives, so the video quality is superb, far better than that from a PC. Vera provides the central control, so you have an on-screen GUI as a front-end to Vera. Vera puts the NAS and DMA's in standby when they're not being used to conserve energy. Ripping on this device is very simple; just insert a disc and it's automatically id'd, catalog'd, ripped and ejected. The light blinks if there was an error ripping, and Vera's interface show the archive of the ripping log, as well as a front end for maintaining the media database.

January, 2009

We will be releasing an add-on to control generic serial, usb and ethernet devices with embedded scripts written in Lua. This will be for more advanced users and custom installers who want Vera to control a variety of devices besides Z-Wave and cameras, like alarm panels, TV's, and so on. It will allow Vera to control a variety devices without any actual programming.
